Drowning

This painting started off as a personal project, but this painting very quickly found a different home. When I started painting this artwork I was in a very low place. I was stuck in a very toxic environment and was not able to escape. I felt like I was drowning, hence the name of the painting, but the thing that always tossed and turned in my about this artwork is that you don't know if the subject is sinking or coming up for air. At the time I obviously saw her as sinking but I look at her now and think the opposite. Perspective right?
